Google Finally Confirms It Was Working On Another Foldable, But It Wasn’t “Good Enough”

Google finally unveiled the Pixel Fold earlier this month and proved that even the company can deliver good foldable phones. While the price tag is something that might irk people, the fact that Google is happy with the release is what matters the most, and a couple of days ago, I saw all the Pixel Fold variants being out of stock, as well. So, of course, the phone is selling well. However, we now have confirmation that the search engine giant was working on another foldable and realized it was not good enough.
Google seemingly killed a second foldable Pixel, and we might never know more about it
Ivy Ross, head of design for hardware products at Google, confirmed during a Made By Google podcast that the company was indeed working on a second foldable phone. Here is what Ross had to say in the podcast.
I’m really proud of the team because there was another foldable model that we had created, that we had the discipline to hold back and say ‘nope, it’s not good enough yet,’ and really wait until we felt like we could do something that was good enough or better than what was out there already.
Interestingly, we recently heard a rumor that Google is working on a foldable that basically comes with a clamshell design, much like the Galaxy Z Flip series devices. Still, we are not sure if the canceled device and rumored device are the same, and honestly, it is going to take some time before we find out. But considering how someone from Google has finally confirmed that the phone was in existence at one point, we might see some leaked prototype shots sooner or later in the future, but let's see if that happens.
Honestly, a flipping Pixel would have made great sense for Google because the company has the Pixel Fold that costs $1,799 and the upcoming Pixel 8 series that will most probably top at $1,000, but there is nothing in between, and if someone wants to experience a folding phone running stock Android.
Do you think there needs to be a Pixel Flip in the market as well? Let us know what your thought are on Google's seemingly canceled foldable phone in the comments below.
