Pixel 8 Goes Through Official Qi Wireless Charging Certification, No Qi2 Wireless Charging Standard Supported

The Pixel 8 series is still a couple of months away, and while we expected the phones to come out back in May, that did not happen. Now, the vanilla variant has gone through the official wireless charging certification, and based on the information we have received, it spells some bad news for anyone who was expecting an upgrade.
The Pixel 8 does support Qi wireless charging, but you are looking at the previous generation of standard rather than the new Qi2 wireless charging. This means that the phone will support 12W of wireless charging, and yes, it is slow, but then again, Google might not feel the need for a higher charging speed in the first place.

The listing on Wireless Power Consortium also confirmed the model number, which is going to be GKWS6. Aside from that, we did not get our hands on other details about the upcoming phone, but hey, the Pixel 8 devices have been leaked numerous times in the past, and by now, we know almost everything that we need to know about the devices.

Now, for those wondering, Qi2 was announced earlier this year , which means that there is still time before we start seeing phones with support for the latest wireless charging standard, and in such a case, the Pixel 8 not getting the latest standard should not come as a surprise. Not to forget, only the vanilla variant has gone through the certification and not the Pro variant. This means that you could actually get the Qi2 wireless charging in the pro variant, but we are going to have to wait and see.
Honestly, I never really cared about wireless charging as it has become a feature that I never really feel like using. I had a wireless charger for my Galaxy S7 Edge, but after a while, I just gave up on the idea of it. I believe wired charging works really well and is also faster and more reliable, but hey, to each his own. As far as the Pixel 8 series is concerned, we will be getting more details on these phones in the coming months, and hopefully, a concrete release date will also leak ahead of the official announcement, so stay tuned for that.
