Netflix Begins Its Crusade Against Password Sharing In The U.S., With Subscribers Being Charged For This Feature

The first order of business as part of the password sharing crackdown initiative started by Netflix is to introduce a new fee that will be charged to subscribers. This fee will be mandatory for those sharing their credentials with anyone outside of the household as we get into the details here.

In its blog post, the streaming company pushed out an update for subscribers who are sharing their password outside of their homes in the U.S. While Netflix gives you the liberty to decide which people are a part of your household, the ones who are not are the ones you will be paying attention to thanks to the new rules. The post states the following details.
“Starting today, we will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in the United States. A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.
We recognize that our members have many entertainment choices. It’s why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows — so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something satisfying to watch on Netflix.”



With the introduction of password cracking, Netflix says that you can share your account with anyone outside of your household, and it will cost you $7.99 a month. Alternatively, any member that is present on your account can transfer their profile to a new membership, but they will end up paying for it on a monthly basis.
It should also be noted that Netflix has outlined some rules for subscribers when adding new members. The original account owner will have to purchase an extra member slot, after which they can invite that member to start using the streaming service. Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing is expected to go live in the U.S. sometime in the second quarter of this year. While the company has not provided an exact timeline, you should prepare yourself for a whirlwind of changes in the near future.
